Potted Shrimp
Potted Shrimp are a British staple from Lancashire, England, traditionally served on warm thin toast.
"Potted shrimps are a traditional British dish with brown shrimp flavoured with nutmeg. The dish consists of brown shrimp in nutmeg-flavoured butter, which has been set in a small pot, the butter acting as a preservative. Cayenne pepper may also be included. It is traditionally eaten with bread.
Potted shrimp was a favourite dish of Ian Fleming, who passed on his preference for the delicacy to his fictional creation James Bond. Fleming reputedly used to eat the dish at Scotts Restaurant on Mount Street in London."
"The best ready-made potted shrimp come from James Baxter & Son in Morecambe, Lancashire For 200 years."
We tweaked the recipe a little using cooked shrimp rather than fresh, as that was what we had on hand. If you opted to use cooked shrimp add them after the sauce is made. Make extra as it freezes very well in glass ramekins
